OnepieceChair

A One-piece, Component-less Furniture that enables Customizable Frame and Soft Cushion to be Manufactured in One-step.

OnepieceChair invites its customers to involve in the design process by sketching out a chair-ish, free-form, but closed curve. The design language here is the double-layer side frame, which functions as the flexural rigidity enhancement. By weaving multiple fiber thicknesses and densities in the fiber's dry state, the entire chair can form both soft and rigid modules after the one-step impregnation process.

Iteration based on structure, customization purpose

We mainly look into three aspects throughout the iteration process: usability, structural strength, and customizability. From iteration 1 to 2, we focus on how to let users sit comfortably with their legs hanging back and forth. From iteration 2 to 3, we emphasize how to make a stable structure that avoids cleavage of the legs. From iteration 3 to 4, customizability is taken into consideration, we hope to let users involved in the design process.

Customizable dimensions, fit various scenarios

Our parametric algorithm allows users to input various dimensions to fit their specific scenarios. The parameter could be the length, width, height of the chair, or the density of woven structure that enables various material soft-rigid choices.
